Road partners with Stekker to roll out smart charging
Road and Stekker partner to integrate smart charging for E-Flux by Road platform users, enabling businesses to optimize EV charging based on factors like solar power, grid congestion, and company needs, leading to cost savings and sustainability benefits. This expanded collaboration now extends smart charging capabilities to larger business locations with multiple charging stations.

Companies using the E-Flux by Road platform will soon be able to smartly control their charging stations using Stekker’s software. Thanks to Stekker’s software, charging stations take into account a number of factors, such as the energy generated through solar, power grid congestion, as well as the specific requirements of the company or the grid connection.
Grid congestion? Smart charging is the answer
Companies are increasingly facing limitations with their power connections. Questions like, “isn’t the charging hub drawing too much power from the grid?” and “ Do we need to pay for the energy we return to the grid through solar?” are playing an ever growing role in daily operations.
Stekker, however, offers a smart solution for this: their software ensures optimal use of solar power by storing it directly in electric vehicle (EV) batteries. By doing so, companies are able to avoid ‘Feed-in’ costs, making the company more eligible for subsidies such as HBEs. At the same time, charging is adjusted to the available grid capacity to ensure the contracted power limit is not exceeded.
More control, lower costs
Furthermore, Stekker enables smart charging for companies when electricity prices are low, this entire process is clearly overseen and managed via a dashboard. Business locations such as offices can take advantage of this by better balancing their power consumption. Meanwhile, logistics companies benefit from optimised fleet management and timely charging. Moreover, the system automatically accounts for grid congestion and generates data reports on solar power usage, which can be used for subsidy applications.
Expansion of the partnership
The collaboration between Stekker and E-Flux began in 2023 and was primarily focused on smart charging at home locations. The partnership has expanded and as of today, smart charging is also available for business locations that offer larger charging hubs. The algorithms that control the charging sessions operate as an additional layer on top of the pre existing E-Flux software. Based on available data and input, a charging profile is sent to the station, adjusting the session accordingly in real time.
