In short
You can charge your electric vehicle in more and more places, like at supermarkets, offices and even in residential areas. Many people think charging takes a long time, but it often happens while you're already parked somewhere. That means it actually takes less time than driving to a petrol station.
Plan your route with an e-mobility app
Going on a longer drive? Use an e-mobility app like the E-Flux by Road app to plan your route. This ensures you always know where to charge your EV, even when you're abroad.
Use your vehicle’s Eco-mode
Eco-mode is key when it comes to efficient driving. This setting helps increase your vehicle’s range by reducing energy consumption. Depending on your car, Eco-mode can boost your battery range by 10-20%.
Charge regularly, even if your battery isn’t empty
EVs can charge at different power levels. The higher the level, the faster the charging:
-
Level 1 charging (AC): 0-100% takes around 11-20 hours
-
Level 2 charging (AC): 0-100% takes around 3-8 hours
-
Level 3 charging (DC): 0-80% takes around 8-20 minutes
Note: For DC charging, make sure your battery is at least 20%. Charging from 0% using DC will take longer.
Battery size also impacts the charging time. Many drivers assume EV charging takes too long, but keep in mind: most cars are parked 95% of the time. That’s about 23 hours per day. In other words, you could start every workday with a full battery.
Consider installing a home charging station
Around 32% of Dutch households now have solar panels, a number that’s growing every year. On sunny days, charging your EV at home becomes even more cost-efficient.
